Eliade

I’ve begun to read Mircea Eliade’s two last volumes of his Journal in the English translation. They were published by The University of Chicago Press and I ordered them to an Arizona bookstore. A long travel from there! I’m studying some aspects of Eliade’s work for an upcoming issue of a journal on Metapolitics, and I’m impressed for his vitality and his desire to write day after day. I understand him. Writing is not just creating, it’s an addiction.

This book gathers the contributions to the IX Symposium “Contemporary Visual Culture”, organized by the Mainel Foundation in Valencia City (Spain) in 2006. For the Round Table Discussion on the topic “Myths for the Masses and Visual Media: From Olympus to Coated Paper”, I wrote an essay entitled “Elementos para una ética heroica” [“Elements for a Heroic Ethics”] in Spanish. In it, I analyze the role of myths in the building up of the European imaginary and the way it is depicted in modern film and music productions.
